Referrals¶
Know a firm that would like Firmdesk? Send it your firm's referral link, and you both get a month free:
- The firm you refer gets its first month free when it chooses a plan.
- Your firm gets a month of its plan off its next invoice, once that firm has been paying for 30 days.
Find your link¶
Owners and admins: go to Settings › Referrals. Click Copy beside your link and send it however you like: an email, a message, your newsletter.
Under the link is your firm's code, such as northfield-cpa-p4ca: the same referral, for a firm that would rather type it in (below).
What the firm you refer sees¶
Your link opens Firmdesk's sign-up page, which says Invited by and your firm's name, and what you both get. Its browser remembers your link for 60 days, so it can look around first and sign up later, in the same browser. The firm set up there is referred by yours.
If the person is already signed in to Firmdesk, the link opens their own firm's Referrals page instead, with your code filled in when that firm can still be referred (below).
If they signed up without the link¶
A firm that hasn't chosen its first plan yet can enter your code itself. Owners and admins:
- Go to Settings › Referrals.
- Under Did another firm tell you about Firmdesk?, type the code in Their referral code.
- Click Save the referral.
The card then says Referred by and the firm's name. A firm is referred only once.
Their free month¶
When the referred firm chooses a plan, it gets 30 more free days before its first charge, on top of the free days every firm gets with its first plan (Your Firmdesk plan). Monthly or yearly, that's a month free. Stripe's payment page shows when the first charge comes.
Your free month¶
Your month is due 30 days after the firm you referred first pays, which is when its free days end. If it's still on its plan that day, your month is earned and your firm's owners get an email, A month free for referring and the firm's name. If it has left its plan by then, or been refunded, there's no month for that referral.
A month of your plan then comes off your next invoice, along with the GST or HST on that month. There's nothing to do: it comes off by itself. A month is your plan's monthly price, even if you pay yearly, and a founding firm's is at its founding price. Refer several firms and the months add up: what goes past your next invoice carries over to the ones after.
- On your trial, or with your plan paused, cancelled or waiting for a payment: your month waits, and comes off your next invoice once you're on an active plan.
- If Firmdesk is free for your firm: there's nothing to take it off, so it waits in case that changes.
Your months free¶
Under Your months free, each month your firm got from a referral, whichever side it was on:
- Earned: the day it was earned.
- For: the firm you referred, or the firm that referred you.
- Amount: a month of your plan, before GST or HST.
- Redeemed: where it went: the date and number of the invoice it came off, or, until then, why not yet. Your own month as a referred firm reads 30 more free days at checkout, with the date.
Your invoices themselves are under Settings › Firmdesk plan, Manage billing (Your Firmdesk plan). Each month given is also noted in Settings › Activity log.
See where each referral stands¶
Under Firms you referred, each firm shows where it is:
- Set up, and choosing its plan. It hasn't chosen one yet. (On a free trial. for a trial Firmdesk gave it.)
- On a plan. Your month is due 30 days after it first pays.
- Paid on a date. Your month is due on the date 30 days later, if it's still on its plan then.
- Paid, and stayed on its plan. Your month free was earned, on the date shown: it's under Your months free.
- It didn't stay on its plan 30 days after paying, so there's no month for this one.
What counts¶
- Referrals are between separate firms: a firm can't refer itself, or a firm that has anyone on its team in common with it.
- The free month comes with a firm's first plan only, and a firm that has already been on a plan can't be referred.
- A sample firm has no Referrals page: it has no link to send, and can't be referred.
- Your month comes only if the firm you referred is still on its plan 30 days after it first pays, and wasn't refunded.
- The firm you refer sees your firm's name, and you see its name and where it stands: it's told so when it signs up with your link or enters your code.
- There's no limit on how many firms you refer.
